Space Heater Likely Cause of Structure Fire North of Chelan
A large outbuilding is damaged after a structure fire early Thursday morning north of Chelan near Wells Dam.
Mark Donnell with Chelan Fire and Rescue said crews were dispatched around 4:00 am to a storage structure on fire on Azwell Road.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze after it claimed about a quarter of the 2,000 square foot building.
"During our investigation, the property owner said they were using a space heater inside this storage unit to prevent some vegetables from freezing," explained Donnell.
There were no injuries.
Donnell adds that if you're going to use a space heater, make absolutely sure it's far enough away from any combustible to avoid an accidental fire.
