Lake Wenatchee and Plain communities maintained the previous rating of 6 from the Washington Surveying and Rating Bureau for the Fire Department Community Protection Class evaluation. The evaluation has led to Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue to look for property to plant a station on Highway 2.

The evaluation measures fire departments and communities for insurance grading with a 1-10 scale.

"The meaning of the rating is that's what insurance companies use to establish the amount they're going to charge a property for fire protection," said Lake Wenatchee Fire & Rescue Commissioner Mike Payne.

A rating of 10 is the worst, 'unprotected'. Commercial properties are mostly between 1-4 and fire districts rated between 5-10.

"The last rating we had, they recommended we improve on reducing the age of our fire apparatus and they also recommended we ought to look into finding a location for a station along the Highway 2 corridor," said Payne.

According to Payne, LWFR is nearing the process to look for property in that area. Roughly 25% of LWFR calls are from Highway 2 corridor for medical calls or motor vehicle accidents.
