Local Teen Sentenced For Attempted Murder Of Family
A 14-year-old girl who admitted setting her home on fire in an attempt to kill her family was sentenced Wednesday to more than four and a half years in juvenile detention. The World reports, she pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree attempted murder, one of first-degree arson and one of vehicle theft.
The crime was discovered December 2nd, 2016 after a Washington State Patrol trooper found the girl and what he thought was her disabled car on state Route 28 in East Wenatchee. The girl told the trooper she had set fire to her family home.
Douglas County Sheriff's Deputies went to her East Wenatchee home and found her parents sleeping. There was no fire but a large section of carpeting had been burned. No one was hurt but the girl told investigators her plan was for her parents and 4-year-old brother to die of smoke inhalation.
Investigators said she attributed her actions to her own severe mental illness.
