Forest Service crews will use prescribed fire spanning 2,400 acres in the Methow Valley Ranger District this spring for a fuels reduction project. The project is set to start mid-April and running through mid-June for areas near Mazama, Winthrop and Twisp.

"The major goal of these burns is to reduce the amount of burnable fuels on the forest floor which will help decrease wildfire intensity if a wildfire comes into the area and will also help protect adjoining communities and increases the resiliency of the forest to any future wildfires," said Robin DeMario, public affairs specialist.
