The Washington Department of Transportation has plans to build a multi-lane roundabout at the intersection of SR 17 and Grape Drive in Moses Lake, among other improvements, to reduce injury crashes. The roundabout will replace an existing signal at the intersection.

"The project came about due to a safety need that WSDOT identified because there is an extreme amount of collisions here compared to similar intersections across the state," said Justin Hammond, transportation engineer.

Construction is set to start in 2022. The exact timeline is unknown as engineers are still developing the project.

"Travelers can expect to see Highway 17 reduced to a single lane in each direction," said Hammond. "Drivers trying to use Grape Drive can expect to see some impacts where there'll be restricted to right turns only for some portion of the project. Anybody who wanted to take a left...would need to follow a signed detour."

The current expectation is for construction to last two to three months.
