The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest will accept forest improvement project proposals until October 1. These projects must be located on national land in Yakima County and would be funded by the Secure Rural Schools program.

"We've got about $143,000 available to spend on projects in that area," said Robin DeMario, public affairs officer. "Some projects in the past that we've been able to provide funding for are noxious weed projects, road stabilization projects, trail maintenance and construction of trail bridges."

Applicants don't have to be based in Yakima County. Volunteer organizations, interest groups and local governments are invited to submit proposals.
