The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is collecting forest improvement project proposals to be funded by the Secure Rural Schools program. The deadline for proposals is April 19.

"There's such a diversity of projects that have been funded," said Robin DeMario, public affairs officer. "The majority of the funding goes to road type work."

This work can include road stabilization, trail maintenance and construction of trail bridges and roadside brush cutting. Other projects funded through the program range from youth-oriented outdoor recreation project work to wildlife enhancement.

"Anyone can submit a proposal, the projects though need to be on or immediately adjacent to National Forest lands," said DeMario. "Project proposers do need to work with their local ranger district office so they can work in conjunction with those folks."
