The Omak School Board has hired Michael Porter as the district's new Superintendent beginning July 1st.

Porter, the current Assistant Superintendent, will be succeeding Dr. Erik Swanson who is retiring after seven years.

Porter was a teacher for 16 years before spending the past 12 in administration.

The district says his focus will be improving and maintaining effective communication skills, building relationships, and engaging with the community and staff.

Porter beat out the assistant superintendent from the Mead School District for the position.
