Search and rescue teams in Kittitas County are combing Lake Keechelus in hopes of locating a missing paddle boarder.

The 39-year-old man from Sammamish was declared missing yesterday evening after he reportedly fell from his paddle board.

Witnesses at the scene say he did not surface after falling in the lake.

Jill Beedle with the Kittitas County Sheriff's Office says recreationists should be especially cautious when using the area’s lakes in the springtime.

“It’s that time of year (when) people are getting out on the lakes and that water’s pretty darn cold still, especially up there at Snoqualmie Pass,” explained Beedle.

Crews searched extensively for the man Sunday night using boats and rescue dogs, and resumed their efforts this morning aided by an underwater drone.
