Washington State Patrol responded to nine collisions between Milepost 160-168 in a span of twelve hours as of Monday morning at 7 a.m., one being a fatality. According to State Trooper John Bryant, speeding too fast in the weather conditions were a factor in the collisions.

"Slow down. The speed limit is 60 mph, but that's for ideal conditions and that wasn't even close to ideal conditions," said Trooper Bryant. "You have a lot of twist and turns up there and you have folks unfamiliar with the roadways, they need to take it slower and those that are familiar with the roadways get a little over confident, especially when you have ice and snow this early in the year."

Despite it being September, the road had ice and snow packed in some spots.

"Maybe you haven't adjusted your driving for that (ice and snow) or even changed your tires. A lot of people switch to winter tires, but they wait till the next month to do so," said Trooper Bryant.

He also advised for those traveling through the evening to watch out for wildlife, especially because it's deer hunting season.
