Ritzville Senator Mark Schoesler is introducing a bill for the next session he says will stabilize unemployment insurance rates for employers facing a rate hike.

His measure caps the maximum wages subject to the unemployment insurance tax to provide stability.

"Anything we can do to keep these job creators solvent is important to our state's economy."

He says employers pay unemployment taxes whether or not they make a profit.

"During the pandemic, unemployment insurance rates have skyrocketed even for employers who had perfect history."

He adds that many businesses are still struggling, and the last thing they need right now is a sharp increase in U-I rates.
