State to Eventually Start Reporting on Vaccine Breakthrough
The Washington State Department of Health gave an update Tuesday on instances of COVID-19 'vaccine breakthrough'.
According to the department, vaccine breakthrough is the accepted term for instances when a fully vaccinated person still becomes infected with the disease. Breakthrough is to be expected, as most vaccine's are not 100% effective.
Out of one million fully vaccinated people in the state, there is evidence of 102 breakthrough cases since February 1st. That works out to about .01 percent of the vaccinated population.
Breakthrough can still be serious, as eight people with vaccine breakthrough in Washington have been hospitalized, possibly resulting in two deaths. The Department of Health will begin regularly reporting vaccine breakthrough in late April.
