A vehicle stolen out of Grant County Thursday was recovered Friday morning by Douglas and Grant County Sheriff's deputies after a high speed chase down Highway 2.

The incident began around 10:30 am Friday after a Douglas County Sheriff's deputy responded to a call regarding suspicious individuals asking people for gas on Road I Southwest near Waterville.

Sheriff Kevin Morris said the deputy eventually located the Honda Accord, with no license plates, but the vehicle took off. As the Honda continued eastbound on Highway 2 at speeds over 80 mph, spike strips were laid out by Grant County Sheriff's deputies. The suspect vehicle drove over the strips, puncturing all four tires and spinning out. However, the vehicle was able to continue evading law enforcement.

The Honda continued through Coulee City despite all four tires falling apart. The vehicle stopped about four miles north of Coulee City on Highway 155.

A passenger attempted to flee, but was quickly detained and arrested on outstanding warrants. The unidentified driver was arrested on charges of suspended driving and possession of stolen property.
