State Route 97 was closed for almost three hours Wednesday afternoon following reports of a serious collision just north of Blewett Pass around 2:00 pm.

State Patrol Trooper John Bryant said the accident ended up being three separate accidents. He described the wrecks as a three vehicle collision, a two vehicle collision and then another two vehicle collision between two pickups.

"The collisions just kind of took up both sides of the road, with lots of debris in the middle of the roadway," said Bryant.

The roadway was then closed in both directions for safety and was reopened around 4:45 pm.

A 78-year-old Union Gap man was cited for speeding too fast for conditions for his role in one of the accidents, which resulted in himself and another elderly passenger being transported to Cascade Medical Center. There were no other reported injuries.
