Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife shared in its annual report in April that winter surveys revealed a couple of wolves in the Sawtooth Wilderness, north of Lake Chelan.

According to Ben Maletzke, statewide wolf specialist, WDFW was able to document the wolves in the winter and tracked the pack in spring 2021.

"We put a collar on one of the wolves," said Maletzke. "So we're just starting to figure out where that pack territory encompasses. Usually a wolf pack covers about 350 square miles. So I imagine it'll be a pretty significant portion of that Sawtooth ridgeline that those wolves will occupy."

According to Maletzke, they're continuing to learn more as they collect data from the collar.
