Wenatchee City Council Approves Taking Sales Tax Money to Help Address Homelessness
The City of Wenatchee became the latest municipality to opt in to the state rebate of a portion of sales tax designed to help address homelessness. Mayor Frank Kuntz says this is thanks to new legislation passed in Olympia.
"We'll be working with the County because the County actually gets more money if they enact the same tax. You've seen other cities, Leavenworth has done it, Cashmere as well as a bunch of others that have done the same sort of thing, East Wenatchee. We're following suit and eventually we'll work with the County and figure out where it's all headed and then we'll get some additional money for hopefully capital projects going forward. We're excited for the program."
House Bill 1406 was passed by the state legislature in late April and signed by the Governor in May.
