Wenatchee Moves to Alleviate Washington Street Traffic
The city of Wenatchee will implement a set of improvements to alleviate the traffic in the Washington Street area towards the Chelan County Courthouse. One improvement to be approved at Thursday's council meeting is a five way stop.
A stop sign is currently wedged where King Street, Douglas Street and the other side of King Street meet and in 2020, a pop up event made this area a five way stop. The temporary five way stop caused drivers to slow down through the county complex.
"A five way spot isn't all that expensive and a little bump they want to put in isn't all that expensive," said Mayor Frank Kuntz. "So we're going to put that in for now and see how much that helps. It's fairly dangerous to jump out between the commissioners' office and the courthouse with parked cars and cars going fast."
Chelan County committed funds to the traffic improvements as well. Other plans include pedestrian improvements to slow people down, possibly a one way or delegate only street parking.
