Wenatchee School District Chief Financial Officer Larry Mayfield is retiring as of July 1st.

Superintendent Paul Gordon said the district is super blessed to have had Mayfield navigating them for the last couple years.

Gordon said, "That first year that he was here in the district, the district was going through significant reductions. Oh boy, if you talk about throwing a CFO into the gauntlet, it wasn't like it was a $200,000 reduction. We're talking significant reductions."

Board member Martin Barron stated it is really valuable when financial managers get to leave their office for other people's buildings and work with them doing practical things, something Mayfield was known for.

Barron explained, "The (Wenatchee Valley Technical Skills Center's Director) Peter Jelsing was incredibly appreciative of what (Mayfield) did to get out there and help them practically and handle the management of that building. That's the kind of characteristic that's really great to have."

Tuesday night's Wenatchee School Board meeting was Mayfield's last workday before retirement.

Mayfield, who has over 25 years of public service in school districts throughout Washington State, joined Wenatchee School District in 2018 and helped guide the district following the McCleary Decision.
