Wenatchee School District Clarifies Grading, and Prepares for 2020-21
Wenatchee School District Superintendent Dr. Paul Gordon says they received about 1,900 responses to their survey on the grading plan, giving secondary students an A or incomplete for the remainder of the school year.
He says most people were supportive, but he did clarify expectations.
"This is not just handing out an 'A' to everybody. Our students need to be working. Our students need to be turning in assignments. And our students need to be doing their work thoughtfully and with great intention, demonstrating their learning for their teachers."
Gordon also noted that they will provide some guidance for elementary students in the near future as well.
As for next school year, Gordon says it's unclear what that will look like with so much unknown.
"What I'm reading, what I'm seeing and what I'm hearing throughout the state, the country and the world is that there is a good possibility that next year could look similar to our current remote learning. What does that look like? Could look like a hybrid where some students are back and some students are at home."
Gordon says State Superintendent Chris Reykdahl is gathering a task force of educators, administrators and parents to determine next steps.
