The Wenatchee Valley Humane Society has temporarily put a hold on adoptions during the stay home, stay healthy order by Gov. Jay Inslee.

Development Officer Renee Parkins says it's a necessary step.

"We know that seems really extreme but in order to best care for the animals, we have to take care of the people that take care of them which means closing the shelter to all visitors right now."

Essential staff will still be at the shelter to care for the animals that are remaining there.

Many of the animals have been sent to foster homes during the pandemic.

Animal Care and Control will be on duty, but with social distancing measures, and will focus on emergency situations with strays a lower priority.
