12th District Senator Brad Hawkins will return to the Early Learning and K-12 Education Committee as the ranking Republican.

The former school board member says he's excited.

"I know our school system has had its share of challenges this particular year with the COVID pandemic, but as a former school board member myself, as a husband of a local teacher, and as the parent of two children in middle school I think I can continue to bring my experiences to the table to help our state."

Hawkins served on both the North Central Educational Service District Board and the Eastmont School Board.

He also has a new assignment with the Transportation Committee.

"I do like transportation issues. I've always considered myself to be a strong supporter of clean transportation options, preservation and maintenance of our roads and an advocate for constructions projects important to the 12th District."

He cited projects like the Confluence Parkway and a new interchange on the east end of the Odabashin Bridge in Douglas County.

Hawkins will also be part of the State Government and Elections Committee.
