A collision on SR 17 near Road 2 Southeast around noon Friday between a semi and a pickup claimed the life of a Moses Lake man.

A 2009 Chevy Silverado pickup was traveling westbound on Road 2 when it failed to yield to a semi traveling northbound on SR 17, striking the semi and severely injuring the driver, 84-year-old Delbert Chase, and his 82-year-old wife.

Washington State Patrol Trooper John Bryant said, "Mr. and Mrs. Chase were both transported to the hospital. They were going to try and get Mr. Chase, the driver, sent via Life Flight to probably Harborview Medical Center, but unfortunately, he expired at the hospital. So now it's turned out to be a fatality collision."

The semi driver, a 27-year-old from Garfield, Washington, was not injured.
