Gesa Credit Union selected Cascade Elementary as one of its Local Heroes grant recipients and the Eastmont school will receive $5,000. The credit union awarded $110,000 across the state to 23 organizations that include law enforcement, healthcare and teachers.

"We really look at 'is it providing funding to support that particular local hero group', looking at requests and programs," said Angie Brotherton, Gesa Credit Union AVP of Community Relations, Sponsorships and Education. "[We look at] how much it will make a difference and the impacts it'll make in our community."

Funding can be used in a variety of way. Cascade Elementary will funnel the awarded money toward social emotional learning resources.
