Governor Jay Inslee responded last week to resolutions by Chelan and Douglas counties expanding essential construction to include residential construction under the "Stay Home, Stay Healthy" order. Chelan County Commissioners have started preparing a new resolution to replace the resolution that Governor Inslee considered contrary to the order.

"We still haven't made that final decision, but that looks like what it'll be," said Commissioner Doug England. "We'll also include a cover letter to the counsel that we received from the attorney for the Governor."

Commissioner Kevin Overbay is tackling the resolution, Commissioner England is working on the cover letter and Commissioner Bob Bugert is overseeing both of the items.

"Our goal is still to keep what we feel is an essential portion of our Valley working and performing valuable service for the people in the area," said England.

The commissioners have not only been working internally on the resolution, but have been in talks with the surrounding counties, including Douglas, as to the approach.

"We're just trying to abide by the governor's proclamation. We have our thought process with regards to that. Noting that we are an extension of government, but we are the boots on the ground right here in our community," said England. "So we're trying to do the best that we can for our community and the citizens that live in it. (We are) trying to get to some semblance of normalcy while still trying to abide by the governor's proclamation."
