Chelan County is tasking a group of citizens to spearhead the management of Nason Ridge as a community forest. The county has been eyeballing property on the Nason Ridge trailhead overlooking Lake Wenatchee for five to six years.

"It's going to be managed for multiple purposes: sustainable harvest, recreational needs, skiing, mountain biking, off road use," said Commissioner Bob Bugert. "It's got very important salmon habitat as well."

The community forest would be roughly 3700 acres. The county expects to close on the purchase around April 14 and a community gathering will be held in June.

Nason Ridge is adjacent to Lake Wenatchee State Park.
