Eastmont School District Working Towards Online Learning
The Eastmont School District is working on remote and online learning that they hope to begin April 6th.
Superintendent Dr. Garn Christensen says they are putting pieces in place this week and next.
"We need to train staff. We've got to make sure our delivery platform, the software, and the connections all work. We're also doing inventory. We'll be asking teachers and administrators to reach out over this time to find out parents have in the home and what students have available."
Dr. Christensen says they preparing for just three weeks, but want to be ready if remote learning needs to go longer.
The goal is to reach all kids, not just most.
"Those families and students that don't have any resources will check out some Chromebooks. We have enough of those to put one in the hands of every student who needs it, but that takes some time. We've got 6,300 students. It's not something we'll be able to accomplish in a day. When you add social distancing, how do you do the distribution?"
Some internet service providers are also providing free access for a period of time to allow kids to continue learning.
Dr. Christensen says his top priority is kids' safety with staff safety 2nd and that he wants to make sure this process ensures both.
