The Kick Your Sticks for Cancer fundraiser, hosted by Leavenworth Winter Sports Club, is an opportunity for the community to participate in a skate ski race through the Icicle River Trails in an effort to raise funds for the Wellness Place. The event is this Sunday at the Leavenworth Fish Hatchery with registration opening at 8:30 Sunday morning and closes at 9:45.

"What's nice about it is it's all age groups and there are race times for the different age groups," said Renea Roberts, events manager. "Then, there's also races for just women and just men. At the end, we have an award ceremony."

The race is a skate ski race, but skiers can choose whichever style suits them - classic, skate or snowshoe. The registration fee is $15 for those 17 years old or younger and $30 for those 18 years old and up.

"We keep the registration fee as low as we can. The proceeds for this race go directly to the Wellness Place," said Roberts.

Funds will cover gas cards, wigs, nutritional supplements and other expenses to help those with a cancer diagnosis or chronic illness for free.

Schedule for the event is below.
