The Quincy School Board voted unanimously last week to appoint Liliana Garcia to their open board position.

Current council members reviewed the resume and application of each candidate in order to reduce the number of final interviewees to just a couple. The board then met publicly for interviews before entering into an executive session to discuss the candidates. Garcia was then selected after the board came out of the executive session and publicly voted.

"She's a parent of students both in elementary and middle school." Boyd said, "She also is bilingual/biliterate in both Spanish and English. Liliana works in early learning and the board just thought she was a good fit for the position."

Garcia will take the place of State Representative Alex Ybarra who resigned from the board last December, citing a need to focus his time on the legislature.

Garcia will be be sworn in at the board's next meeting March 10th. Her term will run through November of 2021.
