The Quincy School Board has been selected by the Washington State School Directors' Association (WSSDA) as a 2021 Board of Distinction, the sixth straight year the board has earned the distinction.

Some of the board's accomplishments recognized by WSSDA include addressing opportunity gaps during the pandemic and increasing both graduation rates and internet connectivity rates.

Superintendent John Boyd said the board puts staff and teachers in a position to succeed through efforts like proposing bonds and constructing strategic plans. He also stated the board provides phenomenal oversight, policy and leadership.

"A lot of times what happens in the school board goes unnoticed and people really don't understand the role they play and the impact they play." explained Boyd, "School boards can really support your work and they can really make it difficult."

Applications are reviewed by a panel of judges. Scoring is based on how well applicants show alignment with the Washington School Board Standards, support their statements with data and demonstrate a link between outcomes and decisions made by the board.

There will be an award ceremony to honor all of the Boards of Distinction during the Washington State School Directors' Association's annual conference Friday, November 19th.
