The Grant County auditor is warning residents of an errant letter being sent out by the state telling residents their personalized license plates are being canceled.

Auditor Michele Jaderlund says the letter was incorrectly generated on August 4 by the Washington State Department of Licensing, and has been sent to thousands of car owners across the state.

Jaderlund is advising residents to ignore the letter if it's dated August 4th of this year.

She says the state is looking into the problem.

“Our staff recognizes the distress this is causing vehicle owners. Department of Licensing is reviewing how the error occurred,: said Jaderlund.
