Junk Fuels Brush Fire Near Pangborn Airport Friday

Crews are still mopping up a brush fire in the 600 block of Van Well Street in East Wenatchee that began just after 1:00 pm Friday.

Douglas County Fire District 2 PIO Kay McKellar said the quarter-acre blaze was at one point 200 feet from a double-wide mobile home. The fire was reportedly burning through junk and equipment that included oxygen tanks.

"It was a rubbage fire." explained McKellar, "Surrounding roads and green orchard limited the spread of that fire."

Chelan County Fire District 1 sent a large water tender to the scene while law enforcement controlled local traffic.

It's unknown at this time if any structures were damaged. The cause is unknown.
