Level 3 Evacuations at 25 Mile Fire at Lake Chelan – UPDATE
UPDATE:
The 25 Mile Fire at the south shore of Lake Chelan is growing quickly after starting Sunday night, and has destroyed at least one home.
It's burning 4,000 acres after first being reported at 300 acres, and a larger response team will be taking over management. There are currently about 100 people battling the fire.
Robin DeMario with the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest is asking boaters on the lake to be aware of firefighting efforts.
"We will have helicopters and air tankers dipping out of Lake Chelan, so we want to warn people that that will be occurring, and to please stay away from those areas where are aviation assets will be taking water from the lake," said DeMario.
The 25 Mile Fire has a Level 1 (Get Ready) evacuation that begins at Kelly's Resort on Lakeshore Road, and becomes a Level 3 (Leave Now) notice north of Fields Point Landing on Lakeshore Road.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Meanwhile, Chelan County Emergency Management is asking the public to stay away from South Lakeshore Road.
They're asking anyone who is not a property owner to avoid driving beyond Lake Chelan State Park because it could disrupt emergency crews battling the Twenty-Five Mile Fire.
The crews are trying to get equipment through a portion South Lakeshore that's reduced to one lane for construction, and need quick access through the area.
Emergency Management says drivers should avoid that part of Lakeshore Road because evacuations are also taking place.
