Liberty Orchards, known for its Aplets and Cotlets candies, is closing by June 1 after 100 years of business. The family, including grandson of the original founder, decided to put the business up for sale three years ago.

"A lot went into the decision and it's been several years in the making," said Greg Taylor, president. "We've gotten into serious negotiations with several interested parties, but we just weren't able to put a deal together. That has been made harder by the pandemic this last year. It's made a difficult environment to sell a business."

Liberty Orchards will continue operating its mail order online service and store until May. Customers wanting to stock up have until the end of May to do so.
