Proposed 53-lot Subdivision Likely Coming to Fancher Heights Area
A 53-lot subdivision south of Fancher Heights and off of Badger Mountain Road is likely just days from being approved by the Douglas County Hearing Examiner.
The project is known as 'Chapacka East' and is owned by Chapacka, LLC.
The low density residential parcels have come under criticism by nearby residents who say the development is not cohesive to their neighborhood. Lots would range in size from .73 acres to just .18.
Resident Rich Beausoleil said a report by Nelson Geotechnical Associates is especially concerning.
"They mention the steep slopes that surround the water tower. That concerns me when and if that soil is disturbed. They mention an active landslide is located on the property near Badger Road."
The proposed subdivision is also on property that the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife calls "imperiled" habitat, so the developer will donate 9.4 acres of the parcel for conservation.
After an additional week of public record was accepted, Kottkamp will likely render a decision on the project between now and January 6th. Staff has recommended approval of the subdivision.
