Schrier Among Lawmakers Pressing for Firing of Trump Aide
Fourth District Rep. Kim Schrier explained in a CNN interview earlier this week why she and 24 other Democrats signed a letter to the White House calling for the firing of President Trump’s advisor Stephen Miller over his alleged connection to white supremacist views.
Schrier told CNN "This is so unacceptable. I think any other President, Republican or Democrat would fire him. This is something that has absolutely no place in the White House"
Schrier went on to say "Right now is a really difficult time, it's a scary time. If you are an immigrant, if you are a minority, frankly, if you are Jewish. We've seen an escalation in antisemitic attacks and it is no time to allow a white supremacist in the White House that close to our President"
The progressive civil rights organization Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) claimed Tuesday it obtained messages sent by Miller to the conservative website Breitbart News in 2015 and 2016 promoting stories from white nationalist and fringe media group. ABC News reported White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham issued a statement that dismissed the report and criticized the SPLC.
"The SPLC … is an utterly-discredited, long-debunked far-left smear organization that has recently been forced – to its great humiliation – to issue a major retraction for other wholly-fabricated accusations," Grisham said. "They libel, slander, and defame conservatives for a living. They are beneath public discussion."
