A brush fire in the Sunnyslope area sent an alarming amount of smoke into the skies above North Wenatchee Thursday morning.

Chelan County Fire District 1 Battalion Chief Cari Neu said they responded to a residence on Peters Street just before 10:00 am.

"The first unit arrived from our station that was basically just across the street." detailed Neu, "It ended up being some arborvitae that was burning at the edge of the property. (Crews) were able to pull a couple of lines right away and start getting a knock down on it. It ended up burning a strip about thirty feet by ten feet."

Law enforcement also responded in order to help with traffic that had been blocked by the large clouds of smoke. Crews departed the scene after about an hour.
