A vehicle driving too fast for winter conditions rolled over and caught fire on eastbound I-90 between Ellensburg and Vantage Saturday just after 10:00 am.

45-year-old Jose Menzano of Toppenish lost control of his 1998 Dodge Ram pickup near Ryegrass.

State Patrol Trooper John Bryant said due to the icy roadway, high winds and poor visibility, the road was not in any condition to be driven at any speed other than well below the limit.

Bryant stated, "The driver of the vehicle obviously didn't follow those directions and ended up pretty much losing his vehicle after sliding off the roadway, rolling over and having the vehicle totally catch fire."

The pickup was fully engulfed in flames at one point and is a total loss. 45-year-old Jose Menzano of Toppenish and another occupant managed to crawl out of the vehicle in time and were uninjured.

One eastbound lane was blocked for about 2 hours while crews put out the flames.

Bryant added there were a handful of calls regarding slides and spinouts while crews were dealing with crash and fire. All of the other vehicles were able to get back on the roadway on their own.
