Washington State Congressional Map Drafts Released

The Washington State Redistricting Commission is soliciting the public's input after releasing four draft maps of Washington's next congressional districts.

Each voting member of the commission, two Republicans and two Democrats, released a draft map.

"We have ten congressional districts, we didn't gain or lose any this cycle. Last week the four voting commissioners released their state legislative maps. Those are the districts we to send people to Olympia to handle state business." explained Communications Director Jamie Nixon, "These districts are the congressional districts which send people to Washington D.C. to handle federal business."

The final state legislative map and the congressional map will need three of four votes from the commission, so there will likely be a lot of negotiating before their November 15th deadline.

There will be two virtual meetings held in October regarding the maps. The first is October 5th at 7:00 pm and will cover the state legislative map, while the other is October 9th at 10:00 am to cover the congressional map. The meeting can be seen live via Zoom, TBW or YouTube, and can be viewed later on TVW and YouTube.
