Wenatchee School District Reigns In Expectations for Security Upgrades

The Wenatchee School District will change their plan for new security construction within the district.

Communications Director Diana Haglund said the plan was to begin installing vestibules at every school's entrance, but the district only received one bid that was 50% over budget.

"We've had to change our strategy and move away from a vestibule-type entrance plan to more of an electronic door system that would be more financially viable for us." Haglund explained, "Also, our staff could do much of the work, which would expedite our timeline and ensure that our building sites are being addressed this summer."

The electronic door systems would have a video call box installed inside an exterior set of doors.

A bid for new fencing in the district has already been awarded to Pennington Construction, who also won the concrete work associated with the door system projects. The school board has yet to award a bidder for an associated project that would install new egress gates.

The plan is to work on five schools throughout the summer, then slowly complete the rest throughout the year, finally finishing the upgrades in the summer of 2021.
