Club Pet, a pet boarding and doggie day care service provided by the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society, will have to shut its doors effective January 15. The closure comes after 18 years of serving the Valley, however Club Pet has operated at a significant loss over a 10 year span.

"It was a very difficult decision, it's actually been years of trying to make this decision," said Dawn Davies, executive director. "The reality, sadly, is that Club Pet has been losing money for the past ten years, for a total of almost $250,000, and that is just not a sustainable business model for any business, let alone a non-profit."

According to Davies, the Humane Society has tried looking at different avenues for Club Pet to help the shelter, which was the original intent. Unfortunately, no dice and Club Pet was more of a financial burden than anticipated.

"I think it's a great business opportunity for somebody, just not our business opportunity. There are other options out there and if people would like to get ahold me, I do have a list of referrals we can give to them," said Davies.

Another factor tied into the decision was that the board of directors had decided a clinic was needed onsite. Instead of the half million dollar project to build a clinic, the building for Club Pet will be repurposed to serve as the clinic.
