The Chelan County Sheriff's Office is reminding the public to stay safe and sober when on the water after an accident on Lake Chelan Wednesday sent woman to the hospital and a man to jail.

Sergeant Brain Lewis said a 35-year-old man from Auburn was operating a jet ski recklessly when it collided with a pontoon boat, resulting in his 42-year-old passenger being run over.

The unidentified Auburn man was reportedly showing signs of impairment. A drug recognition expert was then called to the area. The jet ski operator was determined to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol and was arrested on several charges including boating under the influence and assault by watercraft.

"If you are drinking alcohol, find a sober driver to operate that boat." explained Lewis, "Any arrests for boating under the influence, or driving under the influence, will absolutely result in you being booked into jail."

The woman was transported to Central Washington Hospital. Her condition is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
