
Batterman Fire at 2,500+ Acres
2:30 P.M. UPDATE Monday -
The Batterman Fire is estimated at 2,500 acres with 10% containment. 80 homes remain threatened but none have been reported damaged or lost
Fire Information Officer Heather Amberhoff said supervisors reported a burnout operation was conducted on Rock Island Grade to secure that perimeter and has been going well. The concern is if he fire crosses Rock Island Grade it could head toward the Palisades but the threat is considered low at this time.
There have been no changes this afternoon to any evacuation orders;

Road Closures are in place at Rock Island Grade from SR28 to Titchenal Canyon and Batterman Road at SR28 There are numerous other road blocks near the fire perimeter
The temperatures are expected to reach 96 degrees this afternoon and winds are forecast to be NW 5-10 miles per hour, switching to the SE in the afternoon.

The Batterman Fire is estimated at 2,500 acres with 10% containment. 80 homes remain threatened but none have been damaged or lost
Firefighters have been working to control the fire, but suppression actions have been hampered by very active fire behavior caused by high temperatures and shifting winds. The SE Washington Interagency Incident Management Team (IMT) lead by Incident Commander Walter Escobar has assumed command of the incident as of last night.
Firefighters worked overnight to secure the perimeter near Rock Island Road, as well as continuing structure protection. Today, more resources from out of area are expected to arrive to assist in suppression efforts. Structure protection, as well as public and firefighter safety, remain top priorities.
The Batterman Fire started on July 4, 2021 at approximately 12:15PM, spreading quickly in grass and brush. Two helicopters and airtankers were utilized in areas inaccessible by engines. As the wind shifted in the afternoon, engines responded to the area of Rock Island Grade Road to protect residences in the area . No structures have been destroyed, but evacuations remain in place;
