Chelan County Fire District 1 Uses Fire on Squilchuck Road to Remind Homeowners About Proper Burning

Fire crews responded to a reported brush fire up Squilchuck Road Saturday morning for a controlled burn that was threatening to get out of control.

Chelan County Fire District 1 PIO Kay McKellar says a homeowner in the area did not have a direct water source, and had to go to the creek to get the water to fight the blaze.

"The Battalion Chief said it's a reminder to make sure that you're following all the guidelines for burning and that you have a water source and all things necessary to make sure that this doesn't happen."

McKellar also noted that it can be helpful to provide the local fire department a heads up.

She says Saturday's fire was just a very large pile that was starting to get out of control, but the homeowner was fighting it and monitored it after crews left.
