Douglas County to Potentially Contract with Chelan County for Jail Use
Douglas County and Chelan County are in talks to house Douglas County inmates at the Chelan County Regional Jail. Douglas County is ending its contract with Okanogan County for use of its jail.
"There were some situations that had occurred up at the Okanogan County Jail with staffing and COVID," said Chelan County Commissioner Kevin Overbay. "We were able to reach an agreement for a short term piece and maybe perhaps a long term element."
Chelan and Douglas counties already have a contractual agreement that allows Chelan County Regional Jail to hold Douglas County inmates for 24 hours before transferring them to Okanogan County Jail.
Douglas County Board of Commissioners took action on the agreement with Chelan County February 22.
"We're trying to make sure that we're good neighbors with our peer counties and help them out in their time of need," said Commissioner Overbay.
