Chelan County Fire District 8 crews were awoken early Thursday morning to fight a fire at their own fire station on Entiat Way in Entiat.

Captain Adam Jones says they were dispatched around 4:00 a.m. to the unmanned building which is used by volunteers.

"First two responders got here. They opened the door that goes from the station to the bay and ran into a wall of smoke that was about six inches off the ground. So they knew they couldn't get in. They could see smoke and an orange glow and could hear water flowing. They ran around to the front of the station where they could make access to the bays."

A second alarm was pulled, but most of the resources were canceled.

Capt. Jones says the initial team was able to get a fire truck and ambulance out of the station's bays.

"And then do a fire attack. It ended up burning two gear lockers and garbage can right against the wall that separates the bays and the offices."

The fire was out by around 5:00 a.m.

The cause is under investigation.
