Grant County Sheriff's Office advised the surrounding community to avoid an area near 56 2nd Street in rural Mattawa Wednesday afternoon as a result of a domestic incident. Deputies were on scene for nearly six hours, according to Kyle Foreman, Public Information Officer.

"One of the parties in the domestic ended up barricading the bathroom and it was believed the person had weapons and so we surrounded the apartment building," said Officer Foreman.

The Moses Lake Regional Tactical Response team also responded to the incident to aid deputies in ending the incident with the safest outcome. After about six hours, the person was taken into custody without incident. The individual may not be arrested, according to Foreman, if there is a mental health factor.

"If this was a result of mental health issues, we may not be arresting the person, we just taking them into custody and getting them directed to some mental health resources so they can get some help," said Officer Foreman.
