The Department of Justice's Community Oriented Policing Services, or COPS Office, distributed grants to the Moses Lake, Othello, and Soap Lake police departments Tuesday in order to hire additional officers.

According to our news partner iFIBER ONE, Moses Lake PD and Othello PD will receive $250,000 in grants while Soap Lake's finest will be provided $125,000.

About 43 percent of the grants will focus on violent crimes. School resources officers and opioid education, prevention, and intervention will also be funded.

Moses Lake police are looking to add detectives to the Street Crimes Unit in an effort to combat gun crime.
