Chelan residents and Chelan visitors will have a new Link Transit option for getting around town with the new general public Dial-A-Ride service, starting October 7th.

"People can download an app to their smartphone and then they can make a reservation using that for a service that will operate primarily just in Chelan," said Eric West, Communications Coordinator.

The service boundary is from Pat and Mike's through Chelan, east past Wal-Mart to Willmorth Drive and north to the Lake Chelan Golf Course area. Folks can use the service from 9-6 all week except Sundays.

"That'll be kind of a model after Uber. They can make a same day reservation, they can say 'okay I need to travel in an hour'," said West.

Link has only one vehicle available for this particular service so a possible fifteen minute request may not be able to be granted, but rides can be scheduled at the latest, the same day and at the earliest, one week in advance. The fare is one dollar per ride and can be paid either when the ride is scheduled or when the rider boards the bus. According to the press release, no passes are accepted for the service.

This is a trial program to test the water with the Dial-A-Ride service.

"If it's successful, we may try to roll that out in the Leavenworth area next year sometime," said West.
