Mattawa Teen Arrested After Two Separate Car Chases, Found by Chewbacca

A 15-year-old Mattawa boy was arrested after two separate car chases and the deployment of Grant County Sheriff K9 Chewbacca last Friday night.

The initial report to law enforcement was of a stolen vehicle.

Deputies found that vehicle around 11:40 p.m. which began the first pursuit. They eventually lost sight of it and ended the chase.

Assisted by Mattawa Police, they found the vehicle a short time later to start the second pursuit which ended up in the Royal City area.

The car went off road to avoid a spike strip. Law enforcement chased the car for another 30 minutes until the road ended near a canal.

The teen fled on foot and Chewbacca was deployed and found him in the middle of the orchard.

The boy had existing felony warrants and will face new charges as well.
