Multiple Attempts to Fool Law Enforcement Fail for Grant County Standoff Suspect

A hours-long standoff began with a deputy following a speeding motorcycle north of Ephrata Tuesday afternoon.

Grant County Sheriff's Office PIO Kyle Foreman said the deputy followed the motorcycle to just south of Soap Lake on Road B.5 Northeast when the rider got off, noticed the deputy, and fled into a trailer with a knife.

"While the deputy was trying to talk the man out of there another man dressed in the motorcyclist's clothing came out and claimed to be the motorcycle rider." explained Foreman, "However, it was clear that was not the motorcycle rider because this person was much skinnier, had long hair and the clothing fit loosely and baggy."

The suspect then fled into a neighboring home and barricaded himself inside for about three hours, resulting in the Road B.5 being closed for a time. The Moses Lake Regional Tactical Response Team eventually used tear gas to flush the suspect out of the home and took him into custody.

40-year-old Robert Gwynn of Moses Lake was booked into the Grant county Jail for resisting arrest, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and residential burglary. Two women were also taken into custody for obstruction.

Gwynn was arrested by Grant County Sheriff's deputies in 2019 after eluding multiple pursuits by law enforcement.
